Article: Back Yourself

Back Yourself

Back Yourself

By Alex Cannon

Before we start to try and achieve anything in life, to believe in ourselves should be the first priority. For some it come easier than others – but without a doubt, it can be developed in all of us. We just need to know the steps…

  • Create a clear VISION & MISSION for yourself, so that you are clear on what you’re working towards.
  • Live by a set of PRINCIPLES & VALUES, let these guide every decision you make.
  • Start stacking WINS to build confidence, build momentum & reinforce to YOURSELF that you are who you say you are.
  • Build MOMENTUM & keep it.

Step 1: Vision and Mission

Let’s start at the top, to decide who you want to be is of the utmost importance for all of us who have a desire to become more than we currently are. If you don’t know what kind of man you want to be, then what are you working towards? You can of course work towards external goals; business, finance, fitness, family etc. But none of those will make you happy if you are not happy with who YOU are – WHO you become will either make you very happy or very sad – to find external success without internal peace and fulfilment is a scary thought. There are countless stories of people who have reached the pinnacle of success in their chosen field and became depressed, or even suicidal. DECIDE who you want to be, not WHAT, but WHO – then start showing up as that person every day, to every situation, interaction or occasion – which leads me on to my 2nd point…

Step 2: Principles & Values

What principles & values does your higher self live and stand by? These are what lead you, what govern your actions and decisions – without these we are at the mercy of your emotions and our external circumstances, this is not where you want to be. A man who is steadfast in his principles and values is a man who knows where he is going, a leader. Our principles and our values are what shape our habits, which leads me to my next point…

Step 3: Stacking Wins

Stacking wins is how we build confidence, it’s the reinforcement & validation of our competency on whatever it is we are pursuing. The wins start small; completing your daily tasks, making that call you’ve been putting off, pitching that client or acting on the idea you’ve not stopped thinking about etc etc. It’s about building your belief in yourself, and as you grow, the wins get bigger and bigger. We don’t rise to the level of our goals – we fall to the level of our beliefs and habits. Build the belief, stack the wins and keep at it…

Step 4: Momentum

Then you get momentum – momentum comes when you all of your small daily wins start compounding. Nothing happens to begin with, you focusing on building new habits, its uncomfortable & it will feel like your getting nowhere, it may feel like you’re wasting your time, you’ll doubt yourself and your goals, because you haven’t yet built the conviction and belief in yourself. Then the compound effect starts, the small wins you’ve been stacking up all start to build momentum behind you and its like the wind is at your back, things start to fal in to place and it feels like you’re being guided, you’re in the flow state – this is where we want to be, this is where the magic happens. Keep it.

BACK YOURSELF.
